8:00 AM – Breakfast at Tolbos

Start your adventure with a hearty breakfast at Tolbos. Enjoy some of our delicious homemade treats while chatting with Carin, Hetsie, or Lana for travel tips to make the most of your day.

9:00AM – Depart for Smitskraal

Head out for the drive to Smitskraal Rest Camp. The scenic journey takes about 1 hour 35 minutes (70.1 km) through the breathtaking Baviaanskloof. Make sure your vehicle is a high-clearance 4×4 to handle the rugged terrain.

10:30/11 AM – Arrive at Smitskraal Rest Camp

Once you arrive, find a nice shady spot for a picnic by the Kouga River. Take in the stunning surroundings, relax, and enjoy nature at its finest. Bring your own picnic, as there are no shops inside the reserve.

12:00 PM – Explore & Relax

Take a walk around the Smitskraal Rest Camp area or dip your toes in the Kouga River. If you’re keen on fishing, make sure to bring your inland fishing license. Just be cautious of baboons!

2:00 PM – Head Back Towards Patensie

After a peaceful afternoon, it’s time to make your way back to Patensie. Ensure you pass through the gates before 4:00 PM, as that’s when they close.
